Happy *almost* Halloween, readers! This Halloween is a little bittersweet for me because it was one of my mother’s favorite holidays and this will be my first one without her. I wasn’t going to do my normal decorating, but I decided she wouldn’t be too impressed with me if I didn’t so I put a few things up. It’s definitely a more toned down Halloween than usual in my house, but I think she’d still appreciate the effort.
Anyhoo, now that I’m blogging again I figured it was time to get back into my favorite weekly tag, Top Ten Tuesday! Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, this week’s topic is a Halloween freebie. I’m still getting my blogging legs back so instead of doing ten, I’m going to focus on some books that should be familiar to you all.
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz and Stephen Gammell
I don’t know about you, but this book featured heavily in my childhood after I first saw it at a Scholastic Book Fair held in my elementary school. Stephen Gammell’s illustrations still haunt me to this day.
More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and More Tales to Chill Your Bones by Alvin Schwartz and Stephen Gammell
Then came the second and third books in the spine tingling trilogy. Last year when I was visiting my parents’ in the US, I bought the box set with the plan to read them this Halloween. I still have yet to rip open the cellophane, but I think today would be a perfect day to dive into the first ghost stories of my childhood.

What are your memories of these books? Which stories were your favorites? Tell me me in the comments!
My condolences on your loss.
And the Scary Stories to Tell series is wonderful.
My post.

I loved having the kids at school listen to some of these scary stories when I was a school librarian!

I’m sorry to hear about your mom 😦 It’s nice that you decided to honor her Halloween love by decorating even though you didn’t want to. I’m sure she appreciates the effort 🙂
I used to love the Scary Stories series!
Happy TTT!
