This week’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, is about literary characters we would name our pets after. When I started thinking about names I’d pick, I realized more than a few were Shakespearean. So I decided to tweak the topic a little! Granted, many of Shakespeare’s characters were based on myths and historical figures, but I’ve opted to give him the credit for the sake of this TTT.
Here are the Shakespearean names that I wouldn’t be embarrassed to yell across the dog park.
- Hippolyta (A Midsummer Night’s Dream)
- Oberon (A Midsummer Night’s Dream)
- Lady Macbeth (Macbeth)
- Macbeth (Macbeth)
- Montague (Romeo and Juliet)
- Tybalt (Romeo and Juliet)
- Falstaff (The Merry Wives of Windsor)
- Agamemnon (Trolius and Cressida)
- Andromache (Trolius and Cressida)
- Ulysess (Trolius and Cressida)
Have you picked any of these names? Which ones made it to your TTT? Let me know in the comments!
Great list! Falstaff would be such a good name for a guinea pig. I love tubby little guinea pigs. ❤

I love your twist on this theme. So much of amazing Shakespearean names! I’d love to so many of these myself, including a couple from the Twelfth Night. Have a great reading week! Here’s a link to MY POST in case you’re interested. ❤️

I definitely like Montague as a pet name idea, though I’d probably end up using Monty for short!

Thanks, I think I’m going to need to get a few more pets just so I can name them after some of these characters! I’m sure my husband will totally understand 😛

I love your list of unconventional pet names. Hearing some random lady yell out “Agamemnon” at her dog would totally make my day.

Hahaha I know right? I do have a big stuffed dog named Bucephalus, but so far my actual dogs have had pretty non-classical names, Zorro and Ringo. Guess I need to get more doggos!

Great take on the topic! I’m already trying to figure out how you could shorten all of these into pet nicknames because they’re a little awkward to say.

These are some great choices! I’ve never really had an animal named after a literary character, but I would definitely consider Falstaff.

All great names. I would use Falstaff, as you do not hear it that often.
